Day 84 to Day 89 - Cornices Plus

Catch Up Post #17 -
Day 84 gave us CORNICES... woo hoo :)

This is the main bathroom ceiling with bulkhead over the bath... (We basically made use of every space in the house that we could - thus the bathroom and the media room go right out to the eaves, creating the bulkheads)

...hmm, can u spot it?

the BEDROOMS now have CORNICES :)

Day 86 has more cornices... and deliveries...

The newly corniced hallway...                                and delivered skirting boards :)

Day 86 is also the
Day of the
Freaky Fingers!!!!!  (just for some fun! :)

We see doors delivered (stored in the Study nook for now).

We also see some pipes connected to the rainwater tank (the 15,000 litre tank that we chose -like most here - to put 'underground' to make the most of the space... For those who haven't read earlier posts about it - this tank is part of the estate's requirement for fire safety plan).

Day 89 saw waterproofing in the wet areas...
the ensuite shower....                                              and the laundry area...

we also saw
    another notable
        delivery...

Such as... bags
and
bags
of...
RENDER!!!!!!

And to conclude this post - I will leave you with the very lovely long lines of the...  skirting boards...

...oh and of course my "arty" efforts in Black and White...
(I am dreaming of creating an artpiece simply made up of all the textures and lines from our building adventure - what do you think?)

Cheers :)))

Day 76 & 77 - BRICKS BRICKS BRICKS

Catch Up Post #15 -
Day 76 (Wed 14th July) - BRICKWORK ongoing...
Day 77 (Thurs 15th July) - BRICKWORK completed :)))

So for ease I will simply add photo collection/slideshow of said brickwork appearing... (cue imaginary grunge music to accompany hehe)

So this stage of house construction is very exciting.
The several (older hardworking) guys who did the
brick work were great, working very quickly
(to our newbie eyes)...

Before we knew it - the house was no longer
wearing its "blue wrap dress" of insulation...
but is more solidly walled with BRICKS :)))))
I like SOLID - feels so much more like a real house now.
We have bricks... bricks... bricks... bricks....awesome!!!

Showing off our brick walls :))))

...Oh give me a home among the gum trees.....

Thanks for stopping by... Please feel free to comment so I know you've visited :) Cheers :)

Day 74 - Termimesh

Catch Up Post #14 -
Day 74 (Mon 12th July) - Termimesh put around house...

The Termimesh product gets applied all around the house - on top of the existing bricks (two bricks deep)... After this application the remaining brick layers are built up on top.

The Plastering inside the house is continuing...

This is Bill the Plasterer :) who did a fantastic job!

He seemed to work really hard with a high attention to detail... His job was patching all the nail spots and joins of the plaster-boards.
Bill was also friendly - something I appreciate when we are constantly dropping past looking around on site...

He had a heck of a job too - as previous workers (who put up the plaster-boards) did not do a great job apparently... Instead of using glue to the middle sections of boards to hold them in place - they used a multitude of nails (or screws not sure) instead...

This gave Bill a million and one extra spots to patch - as can be seen in the photo below...

Bill also picked up that the front entry ceiling did not look quite right.

The line of the raised ceiling** seemed to reach the edge of the niche in an ugly way... So Bill spoke up and therefore it will get 'fixed' and plastered later when they come back to do any further patching needed...
(**"coffered" ceiling I think it is called - not sure of the spelling though)

In this photo (taken later on Day 81) you can see the beam of wood added (the "fixed line") - that while it shortens the raised area **, overall it will make the raised ceiling look better when its finished (hopefully)...

... hmmm... I don't know if that explaination makes sense... its hard to describe this stuff esp as I am not a tradie :P

Here are a few more pics...
The front entry way (showing the niche and a small bit at the top is the area I just attempted to describe that needed fixing)...

 Looking into the media room...

This is the steel corner angles that is attached to the wall edges
(by Bill the plasterer :)

Lastly here is my 'arty' photo for this post - I think I will call it "workbench perspective"...

More posts soon.... Huge thank you for stopping by and following our progress... :)

Cheers :)

Day 70 - PLASTERBOARDS and dirt...

Catch Up Post #11 -
Day 70 (Thurs 8th July) - Its PLASTERBOARD time :)

This is the ceiling of the Media Room being put into place...

The laundry door was delivered...

A huge pile of dirt also arrived at the front of the house (to be used for bricking maybe?)

The kids were getting into mischief in the various dirt mountains so we went for a walk through the estates walking paths...

or rather, for a scooter...

As we went through the nature reserve, their goal was to find interesting items for me to photograph... such fun!!!

We also names the unusual tree trunks eg. "the monster alien crocodile tree"... (Don't you love kids' imaginations)

Here are the two pumpkins (minus jumpers and a pair of shoes - guess who has to carry them?!) finally making it back to the street... we were all thoroughly exercised.... :)))

To finish Day 70 - Here is one fav pic from our afternoon's adventure..

Day 68 - TV Aerial on top

Catch Up Post #10 -
Day 68 (Tues 6th July) -We have a TV AERIAL....

On top of our beautiful colourbond roof... ahem... excuse me while I gaze at it....

Here is the view from the side...

What else?
This is the garage.

This is looking at the back kitchen wall. Its difficult to see in this but the plumbing pipes have been added. We asked for a extra pipe to plumb in our water to fridge (for the cold water/ice etc).

They have taken some soil (from the back) and spread it out down along the right side of the house. I assume it was to fix the problem of the buildup of water that had pooled there.

Not so lucky are these bricks - sitting in the mud patiently - around the back of the house...

The bricks are sitting patiently...
(yes, bricks are better at being patient than I am :P)

hmmm... patience, patience...

(we are so close to completion and yet so far)

For me, this building journey really is a mental game... of keeping myself immersed in phrases, such as:

Keep Calm
All is well
Soon we will be in the house,
looking back at this time of waiting

and lastly this little beauty (below) to remind me to
not just endure this process, but enjoy it and the amazing adventure it is...

With that I need to say a HUGE thank you to my man... with whom I spend much time laughing...
He can somehow manage to make me smile even when I am in the blackest mood or overwhelmed with stress... He is sooo much fun...
He makes me LAUGH :))))

I love u James!

DAY 64 - Windows, Wiring and Wonder!!!

Catch Up Post #9 -
Day 64 (Friday 2nd July) - Much Progress to report...

The Meter Box is now attached to the wall...

WINDOWS are all in place...

We like windows...

Peak-a-boo :)))

It feels different to look out from the rooms through a window...  fun!

The window glass is all solar tinted to assist in the energy efficiency. The only glass that didn't get the tint is the stacker doors and living room windows. This was due to the fact that the stacker doors are under the alfresco (away from direct sun) and when open, the doors are stacked back together - 3 layers thick and the tint would then become very dark...

We really want these stacker doors to connect to the outside, so we were concerned if they were tinted it would obstruct the view/detract from the openess...  Then the living room windows are right next to the stacker doors so they needed the same glass look for consistency in this main living space (our family 'hub')...

We also discovered that during the construction, the windows/door glass is covered with a protective coating called 'Goop'... thus the sticker on the front window...

It means the glass have a skin-like opaque coating for the moment... Looking forward to seeing through them clearly when construction is over...

The Gas Points are now in place...

These are the 3 points for the large gas bottles for our house gas supply.

Its very interesting to see the plumbing lines weaving over the outside walls - it will soon be all under the layer of brick.

Here is my man, posing at the loo window hehe :)

We also have Gas Point in the alfresco.  This particular gas point (for the many BBQs we intend to have) was taken out at one stage due to cost cutting. We thought we were being clever and eliminating the need for a Gas Supply...  but soon realised that we would need Gas anyway for the Hot Water System... silly us... so the alfresco gas point went back into the plan as soon as we could manage it...

A friend also pointed out to us that it could be used for those Gas Outdoor Heaters - I really really like that idea... I LOVE those gas heaters that mean you can still entertain outside even in cold weather... I can't wait to use our alfresco to its full potential - all year around...

The other development is the ELECTRICAL WIRING...
We met with the Electrician around one and half weeks earlier and chose the location points for switches and light fittings etc... He went around the house frame and wrote locations and info in crayon on the cement ground... (Amazingly the writing stays there for later on when the guys come in to do the work)

So it was a little bit of a thrill for my hubby to see the media room cables were done...

We can't afford a theatre system now but included a HDMI cable for a future projector... and cords for the speakers etc...

This way its all in place for a couple of years time when we might be able to afford the 'home theatre' to be added in.   This future planning idea makes my man happy :))) and me too :)))

What else to show for Day 64???

Well, here is a few more pics of where things are at...

And here is a pic of the kitchen plumbing (to go into the island bench)...

The view looking out from inside the media room. The two frames are for the cavity slider doors to the media room. Where my daughter is scootering is the dining room.

This is the side view (standing on our neighbours land).
On the left is the nature reserve and to the right is the front going out to the street.

There is still a bit of water around from occasional wet days...
... and the bricks are sitting waiting for their turn...
...soon soon brickies...

Well that was a very long post... It's because I have sooo many photos to choose from - I probably post less than 50% of all the photos I take on site...

Extra cheers to those who make it to the bottom here :)
Way to perservere!!! haha :)

Thanks for stopping by :) I appreciate your visit :)

Comments very welcome....
